Dialysis Treatment

Bluegrass Kidney Consultants is also skilled in the treatment and management of kidney failure also known as End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) by administering hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. We offer dialysis treatment and management at our Louisville, KY, and Madison, IN locations at American Kidney Center as well as all other dialysis facilities throughout Kentuckiana.

When a patient is classified as having Stage 5 kidney disease, also known as kidney failure, dialysis can be used to assist your body in removing unwanted toxins, waste, and excess fluids by filtering your blood. Used alongside medication and medical care, it can help patients live longer.

  • In-Center Hemodialysis (HD)

This treatment involves filtering your blood through a dialysis machine. Patients will be connected to the dialysis machine via a hemodialysis access, allowing blood to flow into the machine, undergo filtration, and return this filtered blood to your body. We offer hemodialysis at our dialysis units at our Louisville and Madison locations.

  • Home Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)

Unlike machine dialysis, Peritoneal dialysis uses the blood vessels within the abdomen lining as a natural filter, along with a specialized solution called dialysate to filter your blood using a peritoneal cathether. Peritoneal dialysis does not require blood to leave the body and can be done via machine or manually at home.
